Shri Lakkhiram Agarwal

was an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). He was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1990 to 2002 representing Madhya Pradesh and later Chhattisgarh. He was the state president of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh from 1990 to 2000 and became the state president of Chhattisgarh BJP after the bifurcation of Madhya Pradesh.

Political Career

  • 1960- Shri Lakhiram Agrawal became active in politics.
  • 1964- Chairman of Kharsia Municipal Council.
  • 1977 - President of the District Cooperative Bank, Raigarh.
  • 1977 - Vice-president of the Madhya Pradesh State Marketing Association. 
  • 1975 - Shri Agrawal was detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act in during the emergency.
  • 1983 - Became the State General Secretary of Madhya Pradesh BJP.
  • 1990- Member of the Rajya Sabha representing Madhya Pradesh.
  • 2000 - Member of the Rajya Sabha representing Chhattisgarh.

Legacy

A medical college in Raigarh was named after Agrawal in 2013. During the inauguration of a statue of Agrawal by Nitin Gadkari in Kharsia, Raman Singh said that Agrawal was a contributor to the "identity of  Chhattisgarh as a developed state".
