Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Also known as "Mama", born 5 March 1959  is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is serving as the 17th and current Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh since 2020 and again from 2005 to 2018 and a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Madhya Pradesh from Budhni since 2006 and again from 1990 to 1991. He is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

Political Career

1972 - Joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of 13.
1975 - Elected President of Model School Students Union.
1975 - Became the Joint Minister of Madhya Pradesh of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
1976 - Participated in the underground movement against Emergency and was imprisoned in Bhopal Jail for some time.
1977 - Became the organization minister of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
1980 - State General Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad
1982 - Member of National Executive of All India Students
1984 - Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha was the joint secretary of Madhya Pradesh.
1985 - BJYM General Secretary
1988 - State President of Yuva Morcha.
1990 - Became MLA from Budhni assembly constituency.
1991 - Lok Sabha member representing Vidisha.
1991 - Convenor of All India Keshariya Vahini.
1992 - Became the General Secretary of All India Janata Yuva Morcha
1992 - Appointed State General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party.
1992 - Appointed a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
1993 -  Member Committee on Labor and Welfare from.
1994 - Was a member of the Hindi Advisory Committee.
1996 - Re-elected as Member of Parliament from Vidisha (2nd term) in 11th Lok Sabha.
1996 - Appointed member of Urban and Rural Development Committee, Advisory Committee of Ministry of Human Resource Development,
              Hindi Advisory Committee and Labor and Welfare Committee.
1997 - Member of Urban and Rural Development Committee.
1997 - State General Secretary of Madhya Pradesh BJP.
1998 - Estimates Committee, Agriculture Committee in 1999-2000, and Public Enterprises Committee in the year 1999-2001.
1994 - Member of Hindi Salahkar Samiti till 2000.
1999 - Elected as Member of Parliament for the 13th Lok Sabha for the fourth time from Vidisha.
2000 - National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
2005 - State President of BJP Madhya Pradesh.
2019 - National Vice President of BJP.

Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan was a member of Consultative Committee, ministry of Communications from 2000 to 2004. He was re-elected to 14th Lok Sabha (5th term) in 2004, with a margin of over 260,000 votes. He was member of Committee on Agriculture, member of Joint Committee on Offices of Profit, National General Secretary of BJP, Secretary of Parliamentary Board, and Secretary (Central Election Committee). He also headed Housing Committee of Lok Sabha, and was a member of Committee on Ethics.

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh
 

  • 30 November 2005 - As the state BJP President, Chouhan was chosen to become the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Contested a by-election from Budhni assembly constituency the following year, winning his old seat by a margin of over 36,000 votes.
  • 2008 - Chouhan retained his Budhni seat by over 41,000 votes, and with it, led the BJP to a second consecutive victory in the state.
  • 12 December 2008 - Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan was sworn in for his second term.
  • 8 December 2013  - Elected as Chief Minister of MP for a third term.
    Shri Chouhan won the Legislative Assembly elections from Budhni by the margin of 84805 from a candidate of Congress.
  • 23 March 2020  - Took oath as a  Fourth time Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
